3 Aircraft at Delhi Airport's Terminal 2 Damaged by Rain, Winds
Ground support equipment was blown into the planes, and one A320 suffered substantial damage while the other two were taken out of service for inspection.
On Sunday, three Air India A320s parked at Indira Gandhi International Airport were damaged after a sudden storm caused ground support equipment to collide with the planes.
Powerful winds at the Terminal caused equipment, including step ladders and trestles, to break loose and strike the aircraft, according to Delhi International Airport Limited.
Delhi International Airport Limited immediately withdrew the three A320s from operations for inspection; two aircraft face minor repairs, while one sustained substantial damage requiring an extensive check-up.
Air India declined to comment on the damage affecting the planes, which accommodate between 156 and 162 passengers, while IndiGo claimed its equipment was not involved.
Sources alleged that Air Traffic Control failed to issue a weather warning regarding the storm, raising concerns about service deficiencies during the 4:40 pm incident at IGIA.
