Entertainment District Will Rise Next to Water Street Tampa in 2027
The $3 billion Water Street development will add a 3,500-seat music venue, a 250-key hotel, and 100,000 sq ft of retail and dining to fill a local market gap, officials said.
- Thursday's announcement from Strategic Property Partners and Vinik Sports Group unveiled a privately financed downtown district anchored by a 3,500-seat live venue across from Benchmark International Arena.
- The Water Street effort, begun around 2018, is a 56-acre, $3B-plus project whose first phase appeared earlier this year and whose earlier stages focused on residential, hotel, retail, and office uses.
- Beyond the concert hall, the plan includes a 250-room hotel, over 1,000 parking spaces, and 100,000 square feet dedicated to retail, dining and entertainment linking the Convention Center and Riverwalk.
- SPP plans to begin construction in 2027, expecting to break ground and developers say the district will strengthen the entertainment ecosystem and activate the western edge of the Water Street neighborhood.
- Tampa lacked a mid-sized touring venue, so Steve Griggs, VSG CEO, says the 3,500-seat live music venue will boost bookings and create a connected entertainment corridor, while SPP calls it the next step in Water Street's vision.
