- The Florida Supreme Court denied appeals for both Duckett, a 68-year-old former police officer, and 80-year-old Occhicone last week; Occhicone would become the oldest prisoner executed in Florida's modern history.
- While different states holding executions simultaneously is not uncommon, Florida is the first to perform two in one day since Arkansas in 2017. Grace Hanna, executive director of Floridians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty, called it an "unprecedented escalation."
