Arsenal Lose Hincapie and Zubimendi in Freak Double Blow
Mikel Arteta will assess both players on Monday as Arsenal hope the injuries are minor before Tuesday’s Champions League match.
On Monday, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta confirmed that Piero Hincapie and Martin Zubimendi will miss Tuesday's Champions League match against Lille after both suffered ankle injuries during a post-match training session on Saturday.
Arteta organized the session for players lacking minutes to maintain rhythm and recovery. He described the two incidents as "very unfortunate," noting that such injuries had "never happened in seven years" during his tenure.
Hincapie was carried off the pitch during the session, while Zubimendi sustained a similar knock. Arteta added that "Piero's one looks a little bit more serious," with both players scheduled for further scans on Monday.
Reflecting on the freak nature of the incidents, Arteta quipped, "If I had a crystal ball I would just say 'guys, get in the Jacuzzi and I will see you tomorrow'." He emphasized the difficulty of balancing player workloads.
In more positive news, William Saliba has returned to individual training following his World Cup back injury. Arteta confirmed the Frenchman is building capacity, though his return to full team training remains weeks away.
Mikel Arteta, the coach of Arsenal London, announced on Monday, in a press conference, that "tunners will be lacking the input of Martin Zubimendi and Piero Hincapie in the match with Lille, from the Champions League group. Both players are injured.
