Second-Gen 2028 Volvo XC40 Updates Design, Tech, and Safety
Volvo adds a larger display, Google Gemini and new safety hardware to the XC40, while the updated EX40 will not return to the U.S.
Volvo confirmed updates for the 2028 Volvo XC40, refreshing the design and technology suite while announcing the EX40 will be discontinued in the United States and Canada.
Produced in Belgium, the new XC40 enters production later this year with sales planned for the first quarter of 2027, as the EX40 is phased out due to low sales.
Inside, Volvo replaced the 9.0-inch tablet with a larger 11.2-inch vertical center display, alongside a redesigned grille, sculpted hood, and simplified Thor's Hammer headlight array.
The 2028 XC40 features a 247-horsepower, 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with standard all-wheel drive and new safety tech including a 360-degree camera with door-opening alerts.
Volvo has not released pricing, though costs are expected to align with the current lineup starting over $41,000, with availability anticipated in Canada and the United States early in 2027.
