MotoGP San Marino GP: Marquez takes championship lead with Misano win
Marquez erased a 102-point deficit with his fifth win of the season and Ducati now leads the constructors by two points.
- Marc Marquez won the San Marino Grand Prix on Sunday, moving to the top of the 2026 MotoGP standings for the first time this season after pole-sitter Marco Bezzecchi crashed on the opening lap.
- The victory completes a significant championship turnaround for the Ducati rider, who overturned a 102-point deficit that existed after May's Italian Grand Prix to challenge for the title.
- Marquez is now level on 274 points with Jorge Martin but leads the championship due to more race wins this season; Alex Marquez finished second and Pedro Acosta third.
- "Feels unreal," Marquez said after securing his fifth victory of the season, emphasizing his focus on the remaining races despite his current position at the top of the standings.
- The 2026 MotoGP season continues next weekend in Austria, where the title battle between Marquez, Martin, and Bezzecchi is expected to intensify as the championship enters its final stages.
