J.T. Poston Loses a 4-Shot Lead and Comes up Clutch to Win Memorial in a Playoff
On Sunday, J.T. Poston won the Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio, defeating Ryan Gerard in a sudden-death playoff, marking Poston's first signature event title and fourth PGA Tour victory.
Poston surrendered a four-shot lead during the final round but made a 7-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole to salvage an even-par 72 and force a playoff with Gerard.
After both players parred the first extra hole, Poston claimed victory on the second playoff hole when Gerard missed a 6-foot par putt while Poston successfully two-putted for par.
The win earns Poston $4 million and spots in the 2026 Open Championship, 2027 Masters Tournament, and 2027 PGA Championship, while allowing him to avoid a 36-hole U.S. Open qualifier scheduled for Monday.
Celebrating the event's milestone, Poston shook hands with tournament host Jack Nicklaus, calling the win a "huge boost of confidence" for his career while competing against a star-studded field.
