Elgin High School teacher, Melissa Evon, named Teacher of the Year

The Oklahoma State Department of Education has announced that Melissa Evon of Elgin Public Schools has been named the 2025 Oklahoma State Teacher of the Year.

2025 Rural Teacher of the Year application closes June 30

The National Rural Education Association presents the annual Rural Teacher of the Year Award to one deserving rural educator. The Rural Teacher of the Year receives a $2,000 honorarium and their school district receives $1,000 to purchase instructional materials and school supplies.  The competition for the Rural Teacher of the Year is open to all rural teachers
