2 young farmers work to protect a fertile strip of Maine’s developing coast

A new organic vegetable farm has opened in Blue Hill with the arrival of two young growers from neighboring Mount Desert Island. Reid Calhoun and Nikki Burtis moved to the peninsula from the island in November and converted an overgrown field into an acre of lettuce, carrots, melons, squash, tomatoes, peppers, sweet potatoes and more.
