Released in China on August 5, the film initially appeared destined to disappear without a trace. It earned just 7,700 yuan, around Rs 1.04 lakh, during its first 10 days, with fewer than 300 people nationwide buying a ticket.
The Chinese animated film "Niu Lai" was considered a phenomenal flop during the 2026 summer season due to its hollow plot and shoddy production. However, it unexpectedly became a hit, with its box office takings taking off from a mere 7,000 yuan (RMB) in ten days. By the afternoon of August 18, the cumulative box office had exceeded 20 million yuan.
