Twelve Detained in Connection with Attack on ED Officials After Vijayan Residence Search
AIBOC said bank officers were only neutral witnesses and accused authorities of failing to protect them during the raid.
- On Thursday, the Kerala State Committee of the All India Bank Officers Confederation condemned the attack on bank officers serving as witnesses during an Enforcement Directorate raid Wednesday at the residence of former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in Thiruvananthapuram.
- The raid concerned the alleged CMRL-Exalogic financial transactions case, during which a mob of nearly 300 people assaulted the Enforcement Directorate team's vehicle with sticks, stones, and bricks, injuring the driver.
- AIBOC criticized authorities for exposing bank staff who served only as independent "panch witnesses" to a hostile crowd without adequate protection, noting these employees are not trained security personnel.
- Thiruvananthapuram City Police arrested eight individuals in connection with the attack; three more suspects were apprehended early Thursday, with police booking nearly 300 unknown suspects under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
- Some arrested individuals are reportedly affiliated with the Democratic Youth Federation of India , the youth wing of the Communist Party of India , as AIBOC demands stronger safety protocols for civil employees assigned to sensitive investigations.
