2 Dead, Including Child, In Suspicious East Bay House Fire: Report
Police arrested 32-year-old Sergio Rivera-Vega on suspicion of murder and arson after a fire killed three relatives and critically injured two others.
- On Thursday, the Richmond Police Department announced a 2-year-old girl died from injuries sustained in Tuesday's fire, bringing the death toll to three. Suspect Sergio Rivera-Vega, 32, faces two counts of murder and two counts of arson.
- The fire occurred late Tuesday on the 200 block of 15th Street, killing Rivera-Vega's 47-year-old father and 5-year-old nephew while critically injuring his 33-year-old sister and her 2-year-old daughter. The suspect lived at the residence.
- Detectives identified Rivera-Vega standing near the crime scene tape, and the Richmond Police Department confirmed the fire was intentionally set. Investigators determined arson caused the deaths of the three family members.
- Currently held at the Richmond Jail on $2.5 million bail, Rivera-Vega faces formal charges of two counts of murder and two counts of arson causing great bodily injury. Police confirmed no additional suspects exist.
- This incident followed a separate, unrelated fire two doors away on 15th Street that occurred roughly 30 minutes earlier. A different suspect was arrested for that first blaze, and both fires remain under investigation.
