Firefighters, Civilians Hurt After MTA Bus and FDNY Truck Collide in the Bronx
EMS took 19 people to area hospitals after the collision, including five firefighters and 14 civilians, officials said.
An FDNY firetruck and an MTA bus collided on Tuesday at the intersection of Southern Boulevard and Barretto Street in the Hunts Point section of the Bronx, injuring 19 people.
Emergency services evaluated 22 people at the scene following the collision in the Longwood section near Southern Boulevard and Barretto Street. First responders received the call at 12:32 p.m.
EMS transported five firefighters and 14 civilians to area hospitals, while three additional civilians were evaluated at the scene but declined further transport.
Passenger Lantigua said the FDNY truck "came from the corner" and "didn't stop at the light," hitting the bus at high speed; the impact threw front-seated passengers from their seats.
Officials have not released victim conditions or identified the collision's cause. The MTA referred inquiries to the FDNY, while the NYPD stated they had no information regarding the incident.
