The East Meets West Children's Foundation's annual Diwali Dinner supports underprivileged children through vital local initiatives and international humanitarian projects.
On Saturday, Sept. 26, the East Meets West Children's Foundation held its annual Diwali Dinner at the Parkinson Recreation Centre in Kelowna, raising $180,000.
The EMWCF serves as a charitable organization and fundraising platform to support underprivileged children in the Okanagan region and internationally.
During a 15 minute donation blitz led by EMWCF board member Indy Brar, patrons donated $142,000, with former B.C. Premier Christy Clark among the notable attendees.
Founder Mohini Singh confirmed $138,000 will support local Okanagan causes including a children's helpline in Lake Country and donations to Penticton Regional Hospital, while $75,700 aids international projects.
Singh noted that funds raised this year have not yet been distributed to charitable causes, while last year's dinner raised around $210,000.
