1.7 Million Attic Ladders Recalled over Fall Hazard
The recall follows 11 reports of broken spreader bolts and one injury, and consumers are being offered free repair kits.
On Thursday, August 6, 2026, the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall of more than 1.7 million Louisville Ladder attic stairway ladders due to risk of "serious injury or death from fall hazard."
Kentucky-Based Louisville Ladder issued the voluntary recall after receiving 11 reports of spreader bolts breaking, including one report of a user sustaining neck, head, and back injuries.
Sold at The Home Depot, Lowe's, and Amazon from November 2012 through July 2026, the recall covers Louisville, Featherlite, Lite, and Century ladders; consumers should check the model number inside the attic door.
Affected owners can register online to receive a free repair kit containing replacement bolts, though "If your Attic Stairway has yellow-colored spreader bolts, it has already been corrected," a release states.
The recall applies to at least 1.7 million ladders manufactured "on or before June 22," with around 13,054 units distributed in Canada in addition to those sold in the United States.
