Teen Charged with Sexual Assault of Stranger on Vancouver Island
Forensic evidence led police to the suspect, who remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing, RCMP said.
On Tuesday, RCMP arrested a 17-year-old suspect in connection with a July 2024 break-in and sexual assault at a Cobble Hill home.
Shawnigan Lake RCMP responded to a Carleton Road residence on July 23, 2024, after receiving reports that an unknown man had broken in and sexually assaulted an elderly woman.
The Prosecution Service approved charges on June 1 after forensic evidence analysis by the Island District RCMP Forensic Identification Section and The Island District General Investigation Section, said Corporal Alex.
Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the suspect cannot be named; he remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
The RCMP stated they will not provide further information regarding the investigation, as the case is now before the court.
