The Blessed Martyrs of Compiègne were sixteen Carmelite nuns from the Monastery of Compiègne, France, who were executed during the French Revolution’s Reign of Terror. As religious communities were outlawed and churches desecrated, these women refused to abandon their vows or their life of prayer.
