16 years later, the mysterious death of a well-known retired Minnesota firefighter remains unresolved
Autopsy results and missing cash shifted the case from accident to homicide, but investigators have not identified a suspect or motive.
In 2010, 70-year-old retired New Brighton firefighter Lee Allen Goodwin was found dead at his home, with authorities later classifying the case as an unsolved homicide.
Goodwin's wife discovered his body near the basement stairs on January 29, 2010, and the family initially believed the incident was a medical emergency until an autopsy revealed blunt force trauma.
Investigators determined the killer arrived on foot and stole a wallet found miles away in a dumpster, while the family unknowingly destroyed a piggy bank police suspected was the murder weapon.
The New Brighton Police Department canvassed the neighborhood, but the crime scene was severely compromised by family activity over two days, leaving the case unresolved since 2010.
Todd Goodwin, the victim's son, told Forum News Service, "In the last 10 years, I haven't heard a thing," while authorities encourage anyone with information to contact the New Brighton Police Department.
