A total of 16 municipal police officers have been dismissed and 36 more have been suspended during the current municipal administration headed by Norma Bustamante Martínez. Mexicali's city attorney, Óscar Vega Marín, reported that 816 cases have been opened against municipal police officers within the city attorney's office during the 25th City Council term.
Most of the complaints relate to elements of the Municipal Police Transit area.
