- On Aug. 23, the Port McNeill RCMP, Fisheries and Oceans Canada , and the BC Conservation Officer Service launched a joint marine enforcement operation during the Sointula Island Salmon Days fishing derby.

- During patrols of waters surrounding Port McNeill and Malcolm Island, officers issued 13 tickets to boaters for safety violations including expired flares, missing vessel markings, and failure to provide proof of competency.
- RCMP Corporal Alex Bérubé noted that officers engaged directly with participants, speaking with boaters about responsible fishing practices and safety on the water during the operation.
- Agencies thanked the many boaters operating safely, emphasizing that collaborative efforts strengthen cooperation between enforcement groups serving North Vancouver Island while protecting British Columbia's natural resources.
