12 minors arrested during SONA rally turned over to DSWD; 9 others face probe
Twelve minors arrested during protests held in connection with the 2026 State of the Nation Address (SONA) have been turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said Tuesday.
A day after the police arrested the so-called SONA51, 42 individuals were released without charge. The Quezon City Police District and Meralco will file various charges against the nine arrested, including two paralegals. The 51 were arrested while protesting along Commonwealth Ave in Quezon City. They were part of the People’s SONA protest on July 27. Some of them were arrested for allegedly painting graffiti on the wall of a Meralco substation.
