11-year-old girl from Rochester, Massachusetts dies in Utah avalanche while on vacation

Thursday, Madelyn Eitas, an 11-year-old student from Rochester, Massachusetts, was caught in an avalanche near Brighton Ski Resort and died Friday, according to authorities.
During the February vacation, she was on a family ski trip in an out-of-bounds area at Brighton Ski Resort when swept away by an avalanche.
Rescue teams including Brighton Ski Patrol and Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue arrived at 12:49 p.m., finding her buried up to 30 minutes while her brother Cameron Eitas and more than 20 bystanders searched using an app.
Investigators from the U.S. Forest Service and Utah Avalanche Center, along with the Unified Police Department, are probing the death while a youth soccer program called her a lasting presence.
