South Africa: Police Probe Fatal Western Cape Shootings
Police said reinforcements were sent to several Western Cape hotspots after three shootings left 11 people dead and motives remain under investigation.
Western Cape police reinforced deployments in Langa, Gugulethu, and Khayelitsha after 11 people were killed in three separate shooting incidents between Saturday night and early Sunday morning.
Three men died in Lingelethu West at 10:50pm Saturday, followed by four men and a woman killed in KwaLanga at 10:45pm, then three victims in Barcelona, Gugulethu, at 4am Sunday.
The Provincial Serious Violent Crimes Unit is investigating all three incidents while Western Cape Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Sizakhele Dyantyi oversees deployments; police have not linked the shootings publicly.
Authorities are appealing for public information via Crime Stop or the MySAPS App, while Acting Minister of Police Firoz Cachalia plans to visit the scene following Friday's separate Reiger Park attack.
SAPS continues strengthening police visibility in affected communities while detectives trace suspects, emphasizing that community information is vital to establishing motives for these violent crimes.
