£10 note sells for £42.30 thanks to 'sought after' serial numbers
The polymer note’s repeated serial number and purple ink patch helped drive the price to more than four times face value, collectors said.
On Sunday, March 22, a buyer purchased a rare £10 note on Ebay for £42.30, more than four times its shop value.
The note's value surged due to its repeated serial number, 'DE10 300300', as patterns like "123123" or palindromes like "123321" are generally considered more valuable.
Featuring Queen Elizabeth on the front and Jane Austen on the reverse, the note also exhibits a small patch of purple ink beneath the 'Ten Pounds' text.
Although King Charles III notes were issued in 2024, banknotes featuring Queen Elizabeth remain legal tender, ensuring older designs with potential errors continue circulating.
Brits checking their change for similar errors could find comparable value, as the Ebay listing described the note as a "highly sought-after collectible" for collectors.
