1 Dead in Single-Vehicle Crash on Highway 93 in Kootenay National Park
Investigators say the driver was not seriously hurt and are looking for witnesses who saw the black Nissan Maxima before the crash.
On Friday, October 2, a 23-year-old Invermere man died in a single-vehicle crash on Highway 93 in Kootenay National Park when a black Nissan Maxima left the road near the Floe Lake trailhead at 11:10 p.m.
The 22-year-old female driver was not seriously hurt, police said, but the collision occurred just north of the Floe Lake trailhead after the vehicle traveled down an embankment.
BC Highway Patrol investigators are seeking witnesses and dash camera footage while investigating the possibility of a criminal element, focusing on events between 9:30 p.m. and midnight on October 2.
According to spokesperson Mike McLaughlin, both occupants were in Banff earlier that evening, and investigators need information about the pair's behavior and driving patterns before the crash.
Anyone with information or observations is asked to contact Highway Patrol Cranbrook; Brett Reiben, with B.C. Highway Patrol in Cranbrook, emphasized that even small details are vital to the investigation.
