Russian strike on Ukraine's Kyiv leaves 1,330 buildings still without heat, mayor says
Russian missile strikes damaged Kyiv's energy infrastructure, leaving 15% of residential buildings without heating amid the coldest winter since the 2022 invasion, officials said.
- On Jan. 25, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said over 1,600 residential buildings remain without heating, about 15% of the city's housing stock after Russian forces attacked infrastructure.
- During the mass aerial campaign on Jan. 24-25, Russian forces launched more than 1,700 drones, 1,300 guided aerial bombs, and 60 missiles targeting energy and critical infrastructure, the Ukrainian Air Force tallied 396 aerial weapons, including 21 missiles and 375 drones.
- Energy workers continue restoring services to homes, repairing more than 4,000 buildings and restoring heating to 1,600 overnight after nearly 6,000 lost heat following the Jan. 24 strike, Klitschko said.
- Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said 1,300 Resilience Points, including 91 State Emergency Service tents, were set up in Kyiv as 80% of Ukraine faced emergency power cuts on Jan. 24.
- This winter is the coldest since Feb. 24, straining grids as President Volodymyr Zelensky coordinates aid in Vilnius, where Lithuania plans to provide nearly 100 generators.
